The shunt active power filter is gaining more attention within the field of harmonics minimization because of its effective performance in this area, where a load which is nonlinear, connected and generating the harmonics problems in the system. Here in the paper a shunt active filter with PI controller is used to eliminate harmonics also a new algorithm which is BFO (Bacterial Foraging Optimization) algorithm is used to optimize the parameter of PI controller through self tuning and provides a parameter values. The BFO algorithm is a new bionic optimization algorithm to follow the E.coli bacteria in multioptimal optimization function. The proposed model is simulate in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
