Online monitoring of SF6 decomposition products is one of the important methods for GIS to implement status evaluation and fault diagnosis. With many advantages such as good anti-interference ability, rapid detection, high sensitivity and non-contact measurement, etc., infrared absorption spectroscopy is very suitable for field detection and long-term monitoring. In this paper, the IR is used to analyze SF6 decomposition products, and the application of IR in SF6 decomposition products is also studied. Firstly, the infrared absorption characteristic spectra of SF6 and its decomposition product are simulated, and the IR typical spectrum of three kinds of target gas (CO, SO2 and H2S) are obtained. Meanwhile, the SF6 decomposition products detection system based on FTIR is designed, and using this detection system tests the experiment gas. The results show that this detection system can qualitatively and quantitatively analyze SF6 decomposition products, which lays the foundation for SF6 decomposition products online monitoring with IR in GIS.
