Will the liberalized market be sufficiently competitive?*

In this papers we utilize the Cournot-Nash concept to simulate the Brazilian hydrodominatedelectric system to evaluate what would be the likely market equilibriumgiven the systems’ structure. We focus particularly in the effects of asymmetries thatarise between the financial interest and corporate control of market players due toshared ownership of power plants and due to hydropower plant operationalinterdependencies.
