To avoid gas escaping from the gap between tube and projectile in mortar, some sealgrooves structures are designed. The blow-by phenomena should be considered in thesimulation of interior ballistics. In order to investigate the gas leakage, computational fluiddynamic study of seal groove during the mortar interior ballistic process is presented in thispaper. By the seal groove, the pressure near the outlet decreases directly. The mass flow rateof the structures without seal groove and with seal groove at the inlet are similar. However,the mass flow rate of the structure without seal groove at the outlet is obviously bigger thanthat of structures with different seal grooves. The results show that the seal groove such astrapezoid seal groove can decrease the gas leakage and improve the interior ballisticperformance. The further study on structure optimization will be a reference for the mortardesign.
