摘要

The Fairfield Sewer is located under Eglinton Avenue East between Bayview and Walder Avenue in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), ON, Canada. The sewer is a 1200 mm (48”), two and three-ring, brick sewer originally constructed in about 1926 by tunneling methods. While the brick sewer was in relatively good condition, the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown (ESC) Twin Tunnels Project was constructing a 6 m (20 foot) diameter tunnel that was directly under the brick sewer and within 2 m (6 feet) of it at one location. There was serious concern that a relatively minor loss of ground from the tunnel boring machine operations could result in catastrophic collapse of the brick sewer. A decision was made to reline the sewer as a preventative measure to preclude catastrophic collapse and keep remedial work, if required, to relatively minor repairs of the liner.
