Propagating Surface Plasmon Resonance on Metallic Grating Structure Detected by Transmission Surface Plasmon Resonance Imaging

Transmission surface plasmon resonance (TSPR) has been a topic of interest because a large electric field induced strong and narrow spectra in the visible to near-infrared region. TSPR was first observed on gold nanohole arrays, later, this phenomenon was also observed on gold and silver grating patterns. In this work, we further enhanced the TSPR intensity of a silver grating substrate using localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of silver nanoprisms (AgNPrs). The TSPR signals was detected by conventional spectrometer and a camera coupled with liquid crystal tunable filters. The correlation between the TSPR spectra and TSPR images were observed. The transmission light intensity at TSPR excitation wavelength of silver grating with AgNPrs was greater than that of conventional silver film by a factor as large as 9.7. The increase in TSPR intensity indicated that the LSPR of AgNPrs could facilitate and further excite the far-field TSPR.
