Going back to the history, we began with large centralized computers followed by the phases of distributed computing architecture. Then we saw the emergence of Internet, which edged the re-emergence of centralized paradigm, finally summit into Cloud Computing and Virtualization. Although virtualization increases IT flexibility it can also waste computing resources and create performance bottlenecks if not managed properly. An enterprise faces constantly changing requirements related to capacity optimization thus making Cloud Capacity Modeling & Planning even more challenging. Whether you are at the beginning of your server virtualization task or nearing the end, capacity planning is one cause of considerable confusion. When evaluating Capacity Planning solutions for scaling the infrastructure, the density of virtual and cloud environments are complex to understand. These environments operate on the impulses of increasing and dynamic end-user demands. In this article, we'll look at what Cloud Capacity Planning is, which key variables need to be captured and how to plan for future needs with Automated Capacity Planning process i.e. automated predictive analytics solutions designed to meet the needs of today's complex and rapidly-changing virtualized and cloud environments.
