A Flutter Boundary Prediction Technique Based on Atmospheric Turbulence Excitation Responses

Flutter of aircraft is usually a disastrous phenomenon. To protect the flight safety, it is very essential to predict the flutter boundary in advance. However, the accuracy of flutter boundary prediction techniques is often affected by the accuracy of the modal parameter identifications. Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify modal parameters exactly when the aircraft modal is excited by the atmospheric turbulence. To resolve this problem, in this paper, a technique was introduced to identify modal parameters and predict the flutter boundary depend on the turbulence response. Then a simulated flutter case and a wind tunnel flutter experimental case were analysed to examine the accuracy and the effectiveness of this technique. As a result, exact modal parameters were estimated and good flutter boundaries were predicted which show that the technique introducted is an effective manner to predict flutter boundary depend on turbulence response.
