The authors comprised part of a reconnaissance team investigating damaged buildings within 100km of Tainan City as a result of earthquake shaking associated with the 6 February 2016 Meinong earthquake. Tainan City, Taiwan was considered to be the nexus of damaged buildings, although damage was reported far from the city center. The response and recovery of this metropolis, immediately following the earthquake, will be described and discussed in context with the response and recovery of other communities affected by other recent damaging earthquakes of similar magnitude (Napa, Christchurch, Haiti). Recovery related to building damage will also be discussed in context with the current focus on resiliency and what that means for communities associated with the studied earthquakes.
