Performance of turbo coded FBMC based MIMO systems

Filter bank multi-carrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC/OQAM) is considered as a promising alternative to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with the cyclic prefix insertion (CP-OFDM). In this paper, a MIMO-FBMC using turbo code is proposed and a comparison is made between turbo coded MIMO-OFDM and turbo coded MIMO-FBMC systems. The evaluation of bit error rate and signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for the proposed MIMO-FBMC/OQAM system is done. The results show that the proposed MIMO-FBMC/OQAM system has better bit error rate performance when compared to the conventional MIMO_OFDM system. For a BER of 10−4 there is an improvement of 1.5 dB SIR. At the receiver, non-linear detectors based on Zero-Forcing (ZF) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) techniques are used for the detection of signals. ML detector performs better in terms of the achievable bit error rate compared to the ZF detector. From the simulation results it is proved that the proposed system outperforms the conventional systems.
