Intra-prediction video compression is a key component of H.264/AVC video coding. For this each I-frame in video is divided into blocks of 4 × 4 pixels. For each of this block a mode is to be found from nine possible modes for prediction of pixel values. This is computationally intensive activity as it requires computing the Sum of Absolute Errors. Two methods are proposed here which predict the mode for the prediction of pixel values. For this neighboring block's statistics and orientation is used. The simulation results have demonstrated a saving of more than 40% in computationally complexity without sacrificing the visual quality.
