摘要

Underground cable is difficult to find and fix once damaged. At the moment of cable fault, wire core and sheath are short. The current through the sheath contains massive fault information. The steady-state component and the transient component can be basis of fault detection. Make the simulation under different fault angle and fault resistance using PSCAD software. The simulation shows that the current through fault sheath is different from others when cable fault. This paper shows a fault detection method by monitoring current of sheath. Using MATLAB to analysis the simulation data, the results show that the method can effectively detect cable main insulation breakdown. Using this can realize the online monitoring of power cable fault.
