The future of wireless communication lies in Internet of Things (IOT) and the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) devices that will enable such networks. These devices will often be placed in less than ideal locations with large signal path losses, such as the highly reflective and blocking environment of a factory floor. In this work, we present a compact reconfigurable channel emulator that leverages an eight transmit antenna array and variable attenuators to provide over 200 million different conditions. Using the array, along with a programmable linear track, we demonstrate the large number of channel environments that can be created, ranging from Ricean to worse than Rayleigh.
