In today's scenario wireless networks equipped with sensors have gained a substantial attention and envisioned as a very propitious and befit technology in vast amount of practical applications, that ranging from health and environment monitoring to industrial aspects, hence can be viewed as versatile technology. For these, data collection is a significant aspect in sensor networks. Static data collection has suffered from unbalanced energy exhaustion but the usage of mobile sink or mobile data collectors has expunged the problem of uneven non-uniform depletion of energy resources through adaptive and biased strategies. However this mobile data gathering inevitably introduces longer data collection latency. Therefore, wireless sensor networks raise challenges like timely, swiftly and efficiently collection of the big data from the sensor nodes through scalable approaches. This paper presents the state-of-the-art and qualitative review of recent advances in fast and efficient mobile data collection schemes. Here, survey has been made on such schemes for WSNs and compared on the premise of throughput, network lifetime, delay, energy consumption and tour length.
