In order to cope up with increasing demand of heterogeneous traffic, mixed line rate optical network has emerged as cost effective solution. A mixed line rate optical network supports different data rates on different wavelengths within the same fiber. The optical reach of this network is severely limited by the noise contributed from the combined nonlinear effects inherent in the optical fiber. The paper investigates the performance in terms of Q-factor of 40Gbps transmission channel under different modulation formats in a mixed line rate optical wavelength division multiplexed network in presence of non-linear impairments and channel spacing.
