A Practical Multirate FIR-Based Equalizer - A Case Study

The paper presents a study on the example of a linear phase notch-and-peak equalizer. The biquadratic-based primary design is converted to a two path system, exploiting multirate techniques and the FIR (finite impulse response) filters. The consequences of selecting various sets of parameters and their impact on: the gain and quality factor of the peak or notch subfilters, system amplitude non-linearity, time response shape and time delay are investigated. The potential problems and drawbacks of the suggested design are indicated. The results obtained initially in MATLAB have been also confirmed with the SHARC processor based experimental set-up.
