Corrosion damage on superheaters is related to the Cl-rich species released during biomass combustion. In addition to corrosion, erosion occurs due to solid flying ash particles in the flue gas. Whereas hard particles damage protective oxides, gaseous components as KC1 can condensate on superheaters building corrosive deposits. Although erosion enhances the corrosion rate, studies on the combined corrosion-erosion attack are rather scarce.
