Detection of Corrosion under Insulation (CUI) is the most common inspection challenge facing most oil and gas operating facilities.lt is not possible to calculate a corrosion rate for CUI because the locations where the phenomenon is taking place are hard to find and the rate of attack depends on many parameters such as rain fall, condition of protective coatings, operating temperature of the process and the presence of chemical species. The most common inspection practice is visual; i.e. by removing the insulation and performing visual inspection followed by reinstatement of the insulation. However, many international guidelines such as API recommended practice 583 "Corrosion under Insulation and Fireproofing" waive the removal of insulation in the case that a reliable NDT technique can be used to perform inspection. Radiography is recognized as a viable alternative to removal of insulation. Digital radiography provides significant advantage over conventional radiography in terms of sensitivity, reliability and speed of performing the inspection. In this work we introduce three different digital radiography systems to perform this inspection without the need to remove the insulation.
