Recovery boiler is a significant asset, so a safe and reliable operation is crucial to the performance of the recovery cycle. Higher temperatures and steam pressures, together with stricter emission limits and a growing proportion of bio-waste and sludge, are increasing the risks of tube corrosion in the recovery boiler. A tube failure can be very costly if it causes unscheduled or prolonged shutdowns resulting in repairs and extra inspections, not to mention the risk of explosion in the furnace. Boiler Diagnostic System provides information about smelt and deposit layer properties, as well as corrosion and cracking condition of tubes. Getting on-line data from the real corrosion risks inside the boiler in the very early stages is critically important from the standpoint of both boiler runnability and availability. The exclusive analysis tool that is part of the diagnostic system rapidly finds the source of the disturbance, which is then used for optimising the boiler process to minimise corrosion and cracking problems. The system's user interface provides easy-to-interpret information related to the boiler corrosion conditions for mill personnel. The Boiler Diagnostic System is an effective tool to increase efficient operation without additionally stressing the process equipment.
