A new method for charge-coupled device (CCD) image processing is presented, based on on-chip pixel binning and generation of several output image signals from a single sensor exposure. Output images differ by resolution, signal-to-noise ratio and sensor pixels region. The method results in reduced frame readout time and increased signal-to-noise ratio in trade for spatial resolution. When used in low-light imaging conditions the output signal correction should be performed. The correction procedure based on CCD camera calibration is presented. Experimental method implementation with high-resolution CCD is shown along with corresponding results.
