An odor biosensor was previously demonstrated based on insect olfactory receptor (OR) and fluorescent. Under the stimulation of appropriate ligands, the fluorescent intensity change shows a concentration dependence feature. In this system, however, the detection threshold still has big gap when compared with the insect and the hydrophobic ligand was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) instead of carried by odorant binding protein (OBP). Thus, we intend to explore the effect of adding mosquito OBP-WTAgamOBP1-to the odorant molecules prior to presentation to the odorant receptors. From the result, we can acquire some insight into the function of OBP to various odorants.
