The study compared selected performance attributes of cotton denim and stretch blend denim from cotton and polyester for dimensional stability (AATCC 96-2001), stretch and recovery (BS 4294-1968), pilling resistance (ASTM D 3512 - 02), wrinkle recovery (AATCC 128-1999), tear strength (ASTM D 2261 - 96), and fabric strength (ASTM D 5034 - 04). Quality and comfort are important to consumers. Spandex in the blend adds to comfort and polyester impacts easy care. Therefore, the selected textile attributes are appropriate choices to determine strength, care, and comfort for the two different fiber contents. Due to limited evidence regarding these relationships in the literature, 12 null hypotheses were developed. The data were collected using appropriate standardized tests. The Mest was executed to test the 12 null hypotheses. Results revealed that 7 of the 12 null hypotheses were rejected. Significant differences were noted for some attributes. Future research can be extended to include other weaves, fiber contents, and varying percentages of spandex, as the blended fabric had only 2% spandex.
