A sun outage is an interruption in satellite signals caused by interference from solar radiation. The theoretical model for predicting impacts of sun outage on geostationary earth orbit (GEO) to low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems is presented. The impacts of sun outage are given by theory calculation and satellite tool kit (STK) simulation; the total time of sun outages for the LEO is 63 min, which often happened between the PM of 14:00-15:00 with no more than 5 min each time in the Spring and Autumn. The total time of sun outages for the GEO are 75 min. which often happened between the AM of 2:00 and 3:00 with no more than 30 min each time in the Spring and Autumn. The definition of available probability was presented in this paper, which was calculated by 99.9857.
