In this paper, a wideband substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) horn antenna with enhanced performance is investigated. Through adding metallic via on the edge of the parallel plates, additional inductance is introduced and can compensate the coupling capacitance in some degree, which significantly improves the impedance matching of the planar horn antenna. Moreover, the introduced via act as the extended narrow walls of SIW, which can enhance the Front-to-Back Ratio (FTBR) at the same time. Results indicate the proposed horn antenna works from 16.42 to 20.89 GHz with stable end-fire radiation patterns in the whole operating band.
