Flashover Performance of Porcelain Post Insulator with Full-Clad Booster Shed

The worsening climatic environment causes the original insulation design of existing ceramic insulators trend to be inadequate. In order to effectively solve possible flashover risks, an innovative full-clad silicone booster shed has been developed. Aiming at the effect of full-clad booster shed on the flashover performance of porcelain insulator, a series of tests were conducted on a 110 KV porcelain post insulator equipped with the full-clad booster shed in different quantities and positions. It was demonstrated that the voltages of pollution flashover, rain flashover, and icing flashover can be obviously improved after the installation of full-clad booster sheds.; The improving effect varied with the quantity of the full-clad booster shed. The installation of 3 pieces of full-clad booster sheds had a good anti-raining flashover effect, and the rain flashover voltage increased by 26.5 %; the installation of 3 pieces can obviously increase the icing flashover voltage to 107.8%; the installation of 6 pieces had an optimal effect on the anti-pollution flashover by67% improved, which exceeds the effect of direct RTV spraying.
