The Construction Industry Institute (CM) developed a conceptual model called zero injury to improve safety management. This model suggests ten techniques that have been proven effective to achieve a company's safety goal. However, achieving a zero injury project is still challenging for construction companies in Canada. The objective of this research is thus to identify and minimize the gap between the CM practice and the company's safety procedures for safety enhancement. For the comparative analysis, interviews were conducted with the company's safety representatives to investigate current safety procedures of the company associated with Cll's ten techniques. To assess the company's ongoing safety programs, we also collected data including the workers' behavior observation in the shop, statistical data (e.g. injury rates, accident/incident information), and the company safety manual. The results demonstrated that overall, the company implements seven out of ten techniques, and the recommendations for further improvement-as follows-were presented based on the gaps identified. The safety manager and safety shop manager pinpointed the worker's commitment to safety as the main problem. However, it was also discovered that workers are not able to apprehend the owner's commitment. The findings demonstrated that cultural barriers should be overcome, and procedures for safety planning, training, and controlling should be enhanced to achieve a zero injury project.
