With today's economic climate utilities are being challenged to do more for less. Water systems must continue to operate reliably even though infrastructure is aging to a point where it is becoming more prone to deterioration-related failure. Systems must also be able to adapt to increasing demands due to growth, regulatory demands, service levels etc. Given these challenges, utilities have the following alternatives available: 1. Increase rates 2. Adjust levels of service 3. Find opportunities for efficiency A comprehensive approach to asset management can help achieve efficiency: support assets reaching their expect life or perhaps even extend their life, and improve the performance of existing infrastructure.
