This paper introduced to the methods and design processes of the design of coupled micro strip bandpass filters with ADS, and it focused on the calculation of parameters and device simulation during the design with ADS. Two circuit boards with different dielectric constant were used and the design, optimization and simulation of filters were operated. It's found through the comparison of simulation results that the dielectric constant of the circuit board is the key indicators that impact the size of the structure and properties of the circuit, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the optimization and the design of microstrip bandpass filters with ADS software were also proved. Microwave filters are one of the important elements of the microwave circuit system, which is a frequency selective two-port network, mainly used to filter or separate microwave signals of different frequencies to control the frequency response of the signal. They have a wide range of applications in microwave relay communications, satellite communications, electronic warfare, and radar and microwave measurements. In recent years, with the development of computer-aided design software for microwave circuits, microwave filter design methods have been improved significantly, and it has entered a new stage. Designed and developed by Agilent (Agilent) Technology Co., Ltd., the simulation design software ADS (Advanced Design System), became the most used microwave circuit simulation and communication systems software in domestic universities and research institutes with its powerful simulation capabilities in the field of radio frequency and microwave. It has a single, flexible, integrated design environment, which can simulate the signal pathway, achieving the simulation of the system at all levels. In case some simulation results at any level are not satisfied, it can return to the schematic optimization and simulate again, thereby ensuring the consistency of the actual circuit and simulation of the circuit. This article gives an introduction to the detailed design method, the design procedure, the optimization process and the electromagnetic simulation process of high index narrowband parallel coupled line microstrip filter. When the influence of the circuit substrate dielectric constant on the filter volume considered, simulations were operated with substrates with dielectric constant of 2.5 and 9.6, and the simulation results were analyzed.
