This paper proposes an energy-efficient beaconless real-time routing protocol, called DBRR, for high-load wireless sensor networks. DBRR extends CBRR(Contention-based Beaconless Real-time Routing Protocol) with a dual-channel paradigm, which divides the wireless channel into two sub-channels for transmitting control packets and data packets separately. Through the paradigm, DBRR can alleviate pack collisions effectively among those packes. Furthermore, DBRR provides a new forwarding policy to fulfill the end-to-end real-time requirements by speed or delay constraint at each hop with parallel transmitting paradigm. Comprehensive simulations show that DBRR has much better delivery performance and energy efficiency than CBRR especially in high-load networks.
