The corrosion rates of High Density Die Cast (HDDC) MRI series Nd-Y-containing magnesium alloys and of HDDC AZ91D alloy were measured by the mass loss, gas evolution and electrochemical techniques in the course of the complete immersion of samples in 3% NaCI at the room temperature. Some specimens were prepared from the internal part of the die-cast plates while the other were taken from the 'skin' of the plates. It was demonstrated that there is essentially no difference between the two types of specimens for AZ91D and MRI 202S alloys. Unlike those, MRI 201S alloy demonstrated pronounced 'skin-effect' when the corrosion rate of the internal part of the plate was significantly higher than that of the skin.
