Trichloroethylene was degraded in a biotrickling filter along with methanol as co-substrate. Two mixing ratios (70:30 and 80:20) of methanol:TCE were tested and TCE loading rates ranged between 3.22 and 6.44 g/m~3/hr. For an influent rate of 3.22 g/m~3/hr, the systems performed better than the literature, which shows that fungal biodegradation can be a superior technology for removal of hydrophobic volatile organic compounds from air.
