Polymer polyols (PMPOs) are graft polyols made by the in-situ polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers such as styrene and/or acrylonitrile in polyether polyols. PMPOs were commercialized approximately 50 years ago and are an integral component in the polyurethane foam industry. Over the years, product and process advances significantly improved PMPO properties (i.e. total solids, viscosity, color, particle morphology) compared to the products first introduced to the market. This presentation will highlight the advancements in polymerization, grafting and polyol chemistries and the development of Covestro's new Arcol~® Polyol HS-200 flexible slabstock and Hyperlite Polyol E-855 automotive seating polymer polyols.
