This paper summarizes a study conducted by Bryce Space and Technology on investment in commercial space ventures in the 21st century, Start-Up Space. The study characterizes investment in start-up space ventures and provides insight into investors, including angel investors, venture capital firms, private equity groups, corporations, and banks. This paper highlights findings on investment trends since 2000, including seed, venture capital, private equity, debt financing, and liquidity events (e.g., acquisitions or initial public offerings). In addition, this paper highlights types of investor, geographic distribution of investors and space start-ups, and venture capital investment patterns. Results in this abstract/draft manuscript represent preliminary study findings; results may change slightly as analysis is finalized.
