Supporting Rate and Soft Delay Guarantees for Data Traffic in the Downlink Shared Channel of WCDMA

This paper presents a scheduling algorithm to provide rate and soft delay guarantees in the presence of channel errors for the downlink shared channel (DSCH) of WCDMA. The scheduling algorithm employs adaptive time multiplexing in DSCH by taking into consideration the channel conditions. If a channel experiences some errors, other channels share its resources until the channel quality becomes good again. The services that are not done by the channel in error are compensated later by those channels that used earlier the resources of the channel in error. Simulation results show that the minimum rate and soft delay requirements are met using the proposed scheduling algorithm.
