NetIDE: An Easy Way to Evaluate Protocols for IP Mobility Support

With the increasing number of mobile users, the network traffic for locating mobile users is expected to increase dramatically. Consequently, developing an efficient method for tracking them is very important Current evaluation methods for IP-mobility-support protocols require a substantial amount of programming for setting up network topology, specifying calling patterns, building moving patterns and implementing packet handling. In order to release the heavy burden of implementation and provide an 'easy-to-use' environment for the performance evaluations, this paper introduces a pseudo-coding environment, NetlDE, which can implement a complex simulation with very little effort. In addition to the easiness, the environment we provide can also simulate the network with more accuracy because it does not rely on any analytical models. It simulates the network by actually transmitting packet through 'channels'. It also supports reuse of testing environment, thus it would make protocol developers focused on the protocol details rather than constructing the testing environment Reuse of testing environment also enables the protocol being tested with a wide range of situations. In this paper the environment structure is introduced and a detailed example is given to illustrate the easiness of using it.
