At the Resolute Forest Products' Coosa Pines mill, bleach plant benchmarking was used to identify opportunities for optimization and operating cost reduction. These included: 1. Implementation of ratio control for the Eop-stage caustic dosage in D-Bleachery, decreasing caustic use by 22%; 2. Elimination of peroxide from the E-Bleachery EO stage, for a net decrease in bleaching cost. As well, additional opportunities were identified, requiring further action: 3. Improving Eop-stage washing in D-Bleachery to decrease carryover into the D1 stage, thereby decreasing chlorine dioxide use; 4. Addition of peroxide to the E2 stage of D-Bleachery to decrease chlorine dioxide use. 5. Optimization of D2-stage pH to improve bleaching efficiency.
