The calculations of emissions from heated tanks have to be studied carefully to make sure that the tanks and the materials stored in the tanks are being modeled correctly. It is important to verify if the tank is fully insulated and, if so, whether heated materials can cause heating cycles within the tank. Also, it is recommended to use actual liquid bulk temperatures based on measurements or process knowledge for estimating emissions from heated tanks, in that the AP-42 default temperatures assume equilibrium with ambient conditions. The accurate modeling of tanks will potentially avoid future agency enforcements and additional operating expenses.
