Pluggage removal for scr catlayst systems Selective Catalysts Reduction (SCR) catalyst can develop decreased NO_x potential efficiency as a result of particulate pluggage in the system or in one or more channels in the SCR catalyst. The pluggage makes a portion of the catalytic active areas inaccessible for the flue gas. Current on-site cleaning methods for removing particulate material from a SCR catalyst and components of an SCR system are resolved with various cleaning methods. STEAG patented a new pluggage removal technique for SCR catalyst as it provides an efficient way to reduce pluggage and improve SCR performance. This new method of particulate and plug removal uses a blasting stream of a pressurized carrier gas having a particulate blasting medium directed at the SCR catalyst or components of an SCR system. Since 2009 STEAG has successfully removed catalyst pluggage on all catalyst types using the patented STEAG Ice Blasting process at its Kings Mountain, North Carolina facility. STEAG demonstrated and performed this pluggage removal service to KCP&L LaCygne Generating Station Unit 1 a 810 MW (gross) coal-fired, balanced draft supercritical, cyclone-fired, steam generating unit with an existing SCR reactor located in LaCygne Kansas. STEAG's Ice Blasting reduced fly ash pluggage from 85% to less than 5%.
