Recent technological breakthroughs in the LMS multi-body and multi-physics simulation software have enabled real-time simulation of high fidelity engineering models. The motivation is to support a unified modelling approach during the design of complex systems. The premise is that similar models based on the same modelling principals can be used during various stages of the design process. Two demonstration cases for pilot-in-the-loop simulations based engineering models where presented. First, a multi-body model of a business jet was presented. This demonstrated the use of a full aircraft model with the non-linear behaviour of the landing gear for flight and ground manoeuvres. Secondly, an application case with a multi-physics model of an electrical control and propulsion system of a UA V was discussed. This demonstrated the feasibility of including a flight control model in a pilot-in-the-loop simulation to enhance flight dynamics behaviour.
