Soil suction-water content relationship (SWR) is indispensable for mathematical modeling of unsaturated soil behavior. It is defined as the graphical relationship between soil suction and soil-water content. Measurement of SWR is a cost-intensive and time-consuming process. Therefore, the normal practice is to measure a portion of SWR and then to fit it with the help of SWR equations to estimate the complete SWR for obtaining its parameters. There are different suction measuring methodologies available that give varying range. The influence of range of measured suction on parametric determination of SWR equation needs to be understood. It must be noted that there are very few studies reported in the literature on the influence of range of suction measurement on the fitted SWR and its parameters. Therefore, the present study attempts to investigate the influence of three different ranges of suction measured by three different measuring methodologies on the fitted SWR and its parameters for an expansive soil. The measured SWRs have been fitted using two most popular SWR equations. The study indicates that the different ranges of suction measured have significant influence on the fitted SWR and its parameters. The study further investigates the implication of parametric differences on unsaturated hydraulic conductivity (k_u) of the soil.
