Undrained monotonic triaxial extension tests were performed on Sydney sand with fines (up to 20%) to examine and characterise different mechanical behaviours. Equivalent granular void ratio was used to synthesise test results. Test results show that soil manifested three forms of behaviours: flow, limited-flow and non-flow. Further, tests results also show that static instability and steady state behaviours can be correlated with equivalent granular void ratio.
