This paper presents a micro-mechanical analysis of the effect of soil fabric on low-strain stiffness properties of granular soils. The discrete element method (DEM) is used to model the soil skeleton as a random assemblage of irregularly shaped particles. Numerical simulations were conducted to generate soil samples having similar void ratios and significantly dissimilar fabric by extracting particles from the interparticle force networks. The simulated samples were subjected to triaxial stress conditions. The conducted analyses revealed a substantial effect of fabric on the stiffness properties of granular soils.
