Site Classification and Site Quality Evaluation of the Land for Coal Gangue Dump in Fushun Mining Area

A great amount of waste materials such as ore tailing and waste rock in the coal mining were dumped in the mining area and neighbouring lands, which made great damage to the soil environment of the occupied land. The occupied lands are called land for coal gangue dump (LCGD). To reduce the damage, we made investigation on the LCGD and proposed that the vegetation planting was the better method to improve the LCGD condition. Taking the Fushun mining area for investigation object, the influence of LCGD to peripheral ecological environment and landscape ecological features of LCGD were systematically researched and analyzed. The main components characteristic of LCGD and coal-rock weathering processes were studied. The LCGD sites were classified according to the age limit of stopping discharging rock waste. The site quality was evaluated through measuring and analyzing soil physical characteristic, PH values, nutrient condition and forest tree growth condition.
