INVESTIGATION OF VEHICLE CRASH PULSE SEVERITY USING FRONTAL NEW CAR ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (NCAP) TEST DATA

The severity of vehicle crash pulses of the frontal New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) tests is evaluated by existing metrics. The existing metrics can be categorized into four groups: metrics based on vehicle crash pulse only, metrics based on vehicle crash pulse with assumed occupant response, metrics based on vehicle crash pulse with actual occupant responses, and combined metrics. The paper discusses their evaluation results of frontal NCAP test data and their assessability of the crash pulse severity.
