This study proposed DM-MAC, a hybrid MAC protocol that is suitable for mobile wireless networking environments such as modern cooperative air combat. Unlike other hybrid MAC protocols, DM-MAC combines collision-free and concurrent transmission based access scheme in a positive way. Through simulation, the performance of the proposed DM-MAC was evaluated. Simulation results showed that DM-MAC can self-adjust media access scheme between the collision-free MAC mode and the efficient cooperative MAC mode rapidly. Besides, DM-MAC presented better performance than IEEE 802.11 DCF in terms of throughput and access delay under high traffic loads.
