Generally speaking, insulation defects of electrical equipment do not always cause PD under the condition of normal operation voltage. However, PD may occur under higher voltage. Some insulation defects may also be eliminated by strong arc which is caused by PD. This has been confirmed by much site operation and maintenance practice. Therefore, before operation or after maintenance, it is necessary for insulation defects diagnosis of the equipment to detect change and trend of insulation defects criterion (characteristic parameters). It has decisive significance for condition assessment of electrical equipment.
