INTRODUCING ON-FARM IRRIGATION WATER DISTRIBUTION SOFTWARE - A CASE STUDY FOR AFZAR ON-FARM IRRIGATION SYSTEM

Irrigation is one of the key factors for agricultural crop production. Food security for populationand increasing demand for irrigation water requires improvement in water management,in irrigation water supply and in irrigation water consumption methods. To this end, properplanning for water distribution and delivery on farm level is an effective element in irrigationwater management, which can reduce a large portion of irrigation water losses as a result ofexcess water delivery or untimely irrigation. Due to numerous soil, water and crop interrelatedparameters, the on-farm irrigation planning becomes so complicated that achieving a justifi edapplied water distribution schedule requires the computerized calculation. To deal with thisissue, Mahab Ghodss Consulting Engineering Company introduced the software to preparean irrigation schedule, which is most suitable for the particular situation in a farm system. Ina case study, the computer program was run for Afzar on-farm irrigation system, the output ofwhich has been presented in this paper.
