THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPACT OF CURRENT AND POSSIBLE FUTURE INTERNATIONAL DAMAGE STABILITY REGULATIONS

This provides an update to the paper given at the previous RINA conference on The Damaged Ship in late January 2011and outlines progress made in the last two years in the continuing development of damage stability regulations withrespect to safe ship design and operation. The main focus is on passenger ship safety, in particular RO-PAX ships,where considerable efforts are currently being made at IMO to ensure that the SOLAS amendments are fit for purposefollowing the major switch from a deterministic to a probabilistic methodology on the 1st January 2009.
