Optimisation of Feedstock Based on Pure Nickel to Produce Parts with Magnetomechanical Properties

In this work, the injection moulding process of pure nickel has been studied. Nickel may become a valuable smart material for some applications and the production of small parts by MIM which enables complex geometry is explored due to its magnetoelastic behavior. The optimisation of the feedstock composition was based on torque measurements and rheological studies. The moulding parameters were selected to have specific cylindrical geometry getting defect-free green specimens. This geometry will permit to evaluate the magnetomechanical properties of the sintered specimen. The parts were sintered at temperatures between 1375°C and 1425°C in N_2/H_2 atmosphere, and different holding time was evaluated. In this kind of alloy all the processing parameters have to be controlled due to their influence on internal stresses and in turn on its magnetoelastic effects.
