The rate-dependent behavior of sand is investigated through a series of cyclic triaxial tests. The tests were performed on Monterey 0/30 Sand at loading frequencies of 0.1 and 1.5 Hz over a range of confining pressures, cyclic stresses, and peak stress levels. The frequency of loading did have an effect on the strains measured during the tests under certain conditions. Larger axial strains were measured during the tests performed at the lower frequency for test conditions that resulted in larger axial strains, such as higher peak stress levels and larger cyclic stresses.
